Advanced filament drying at up to 110°C with a new annealing mode – for high-quality prints for professional users

SUNLU, a leading manufacturer of 3D printing materials known for its range of filaments, has unveiled its next-generation filament drying solution – the FilaDryer E2 – designed specifically for compatibility with a wide range of materials, from PLA to engineering-grade materials. This new product offers a higher drying temperature of up to 110°C, ensuring optimal conditions for advanced filaments such as Nylon and PC.

Filament drying involves removing excess moisture from 3D printing materials before use. Many filaments, especially engineering filaments like Nylon and PC, are hygroscopic, meaning they absorb water from the air. If these filaments are not dried, the trapped moisture can evaporate during the printing process, leading to issues such as reduced part strength, surface defects, and uneven extrusion.

The FilaDryer E2 features precise temperature control to maintain a stable and consistent heat level. In a 25°C (±5°C) environment, the system can maintain up to 70°C with an accuracy of ±3°C. Between 70°C and 110°C, it offers an accuracy of ±5°C based on measurements at four different points – enabling consistent drying for professional results. With internal dimensions of 372 mm × 192 mm × 186 mm, the FilaDryer E2 accommodates two 1kg spools, one 2kg spool, or even one 3kg spool – allowing users to dry different spool sizes in one device. A spacious chamber, coupled with eight outlet ports and quick-connect fittings, allows for the simultaneous feeding of multiple filaments, while silicone plugs ensure the environment remains sealed when not in use.

SUNLU launches the one-of-a-kind FilaDryer E2 for engineering materials - bringing advanced filament drying up to 110°C.

The user-friendly touchscreen, inherited from SUNLU's S4 series, allows for easy operation for tasks such as setting the temperature and adjusting drying or annealing cycles. Even near the upper limit of 110°C, the product's surface temperature remains below 60°C, ensuring safe handling. The FilaDryer E2 supports filament diameters of 1.75 mm, 2.85 mm, and 3.0 mm, making it suitable for a variety of consumables, including popular engineering filaments that often require strict drying and heat treatment conditions. By integrating UL, CE, FCC, UKCA, and RoHS certifications, SUNLU maintains strict global safety standards.

In addition to its drying capabilities, the FilaDryer E2 features an annealing mode for users who wish to strengthen or stabilize their prints after processing. This feature is a valuable tool for professionals who work with filaments that perform best under controlled heat treatment.

By carefully heating the finished print to a specific temperature, annealing helps to reduce internal stresses and improve mechanical properties, making components more durable and reliable in demanding applications.

The new device also includes other refined details, such as ensuring minimal moisture reabsorption and quick-connect fittings for Teflon tubes, which optimize the workflow in environments with multiple printers.

With the launch of the FilaDryer E2, SUNLU further strengthens its position in the industry, anticipating and meeting evolving demands. As the company expands its portfolio of engineering materials and refines its products through regular updates, users can expect a constantly improving range of features.

The FilaDryer E2 will be available for pre-order starting January 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM UTC.
